Countdown to Nd.edu has Begun

August 24th, 2007

We have officially started the countdown to the new nd.edu. There is a live countdown ticker currently on the site.

The Countdown: nd.edu

We are all excited and anxious to present this new website to the Notre Dame community.

Are you ready? I just posted a live version of “Here Come the Irish” on our official Notre Dame YouTube channel.

Turn up the speakers and get ready for Tuesday. It’s going to be fresh and new. Is your Flash player up-to-date?

One Week to Go

August 20th, 2007

Feedback from our first initial round of testing is in, and it seems that people like the new product. We’re about a week from launching (arguably) the largest web project any of us have ever produced – nd.edu. The past two weeks have been filled with intense day-and-night sessions of brainstorming, writing, designing, programming, and other adrenaline-producing activities. As a result, the past weekend was a total snore. I slept most of the weekend. Most of us on the project team did some serious decompression over the weekend. We all know what is in store this week, so it is important to be prepared mentally.

It is going to be an amazing August 28. We’re just in cruise control this week because our strategy was to get most of the work done well in advance of the launch – this way we can enjoy the build-up to the launch, test thoroughly, and make necessary changes from beta testing.

Feedback has been very positive.

I’ve been waiting for this event for almost six years. It almost seems as if this is not really happening. I think back to the early brainstorming sessions back in February, then I look at the beta site – a concept comes true. I hope that the community is happy with the work. We’re taking this task very seriously because we care very much about the University.

I could not be more proud of the team. I mean, I have always known this is a special group, but situations like this prove it. We have worked insane hours – under incredible pressure – and no one is complaining.

Get ready. Eight days.
