I’m a Mac

October 2nd, 2006 | Posted in Analysis

I’ve been waiting for a few weeks to write those words. It has taken a period of reflection for me to fully accept the fact that I made this historic change in my digital life. It is not that I am having problems letting go – it is just the unbelievable realization that I am much happier on a Mac.

Mostly, I am what you would call an early adopter of technology. That is, I usually seek out useful and meaningful ways that technology can improve my life. This often means I make changes often, am willing to accept new ideas, and often am the one recruiting others to join me. This includes products such as Tivo, Slingbox, Motorola Q, iPod, HDTV, GPS, and the Web.

But, I missed a big one. I admit it.

Had it not been for the persistent, relentless, and somewhat militant Mac users in my office, I would never have made the switch. It took two years. But, for some cosmic reason, the timing was right last month. I decided to make the switch and give it a go.

Two minutes on a Macbook. That’s how long it took to convince me.

After Steve gave me a 10 minute demo, I got my hands on a new Macbook. Two minutes later I was on the Web, scrolling with two fingers (my favorite), tweaking my dock preferences, installing widgets — and not looking back.

Steve, John, Jim, Bill, Chas, and Oak should be thanked personally by Apple Inc. They connected me to a vibrant social network backed by incredibly usable technology. I will do my part to share with others.
